Posts and Tags Explained
Posts can generally be thought of as articles or stories – in our case, things like birth or marriage announcements, biographies, and the like.
We assign every Post one or more “Tags” to help organize them and make them easy for you to find. Then we group the Tags into the broad categories you see above such as: Admin, People, Places, Months, and Years. These Tag groups are mostly self-explanatory, but a note about People Tags may be helpful:
Wherever possible we build a People Tag using the Family name at birth, first and middle initials (we use X for an unknown middle initial), and birth year.
For example, Daniel Simon Arnold born in 1890 would be ArnoldDS1890, and his great-grandson Daniel Scott Arnold would be ArnoldDS1986. In another example, the tag for Laban Arnold’s wife, Doris, would be MooreDJ1931.
Click on the appropriate Tag name to see all Posts for that person. Of course, you may not know all the maiden names, middle names and birth years, but knowing these facts will help you find your person in the list above.
Remember you can always click on the search icon in the menu bar and type “Doris”, or whatever, but that is less precise.
The number in parentheses after each Tag is the number of Posts for that Tag.
