Roy was 3 when Ethel Ruth Moore joined the family in 1913.

1920’s

On January 3, 1920 it was reported that Roy (Census-Name: Roy E. Moore), 9 years of age, was born in Ohio and currently lived in a home they owned with a mortgage in Goshen, Hardin, Ohio. His mother and father were both born in Ohio. He lived in a household of 5. Based on the age given to the census official, his birth year is 1910/1911.

1930’s

On April 10, 1930 it was reported that Roy (Census-Name: Roy Moore), 20 years of age, was born in Ohio and currently lived on the farm they owned, with no radio, in Goshen, Hardin, Ohio. His mother and father were both born in Ohio. He lived in a household of 4, was single, and did not work outside the home/farm. Roy was able to read/write and speak English. He was not a U.S. veteran. Based on the age given to the census official, his birth year is 1909/1910.

Roy married Laura Lucille Kahley in Kenton, Hardin, Ohio, USA on Wednesday, June 11, 1930.

1940’s

On April 9, 1940 it was reported that Roy (Census-Name: Roy Moore), 30 years of age, was born in Ohio and currently lived in a $5/month rental (farm) in Marseilles, Wyandot, Ohio. This is the same place he lived five years prior. He was the head of a household of 3, was married, and worked as a “farmer on a farm”. Roy had completed grade 9, and had not recently been in school. Based on the age given to the census official, his birth year is 1909/1910.

In September of 1940, the United States instituted a peacetime draft, requiring registration of all men between the ages of 21 and 45. On October 16, 1940, Roy registered for the draft of World War II. He was never drafted into military service.

According to his 1940 registration card, Roy was white, 5′ 9″ tall, weighed 140 pounds, had Blonde hair, blue eyes and a light complexion. He registered in Wyandot county, Ohio.

In October of 1946, Roy lived in Bendon, Michigan, per his social security card mailing.

1950’s

On November 1, 1952, Roy and Laura moved from Ohio to Palm Beach County, Florida. [Source: Divorce Complaint, Section Three.]

On December 16, 1952, Roy and Laura secured a mortgage from Martin and Myrtle Pavlic for $7,500 on a bar in Florida. The “Satisfaction of Mortgage” for that property – Lots 51-53 of Tropical Terrace, Hypoluxo, Florida [Palm Beach County, Lake Worth area], was recorded on August 9, 1956. At that time, Roy’s address was Route #2 Box 686, Lake Worth, Florida.

On March 26, 1957, Roy and Laura sold their bar to Clayton M. and Mary Jane Johnsen for $18,500.

Roy and Laura separated On April 16, 1957, and Roy filed for divorce on April 19, 1957. Their divorce was official on June 18, 1957.

1960’s

When Roy was 50, his mother, Edith Lillian Buess, died in March of 1960.

Roy married Betty Ann O’Neill on December 29, 1966. Justice of the Peace officiating in Kingsland, Camden County, Georgia. Unfortunately, we know very little of Betty or her life with Roy.

In May of 1969, when Roy was 59, his father, John J. Moore passed away.
